Are my old eyes deceiving me or did I actually see [at a distance] a 156 in TfW colours forming 1K07 1028 Holyhead-Crewe today?
I'm sure it had droplights and doors at the end of each coach. Or is the strain of lockdown getting to me?
[Apologies if this has been mentioned before]

I believe it was two 153s.

Edit: 153323 and 153325, from Railways of North Wales on Facebook.

Ah - that will be it. Thank you.
I didn't realise they were using 153s in multiple on the main line.

With this covid 19 timetable there are loads of long distance 153 pairs. A couple of North Wales Coast diagrams and 2 Carmarthen to Manchester diagrams each day.

Not had any 153s on the coast for over 8 weeks so I’ve been told. Apart from the 4 which have been around in the last few days

Presumably they are using the opportunities offered by reduced services and fewer people travelling to modify as many 175s and 158s as possible?

Yes they are new diagrams this week. A pair does 10:28+16:28 holyhead to Crewe and 13:24+20:24 Crewe to Holyhead that's diagrammed a pair of 153s, looking again the other pair were covering a 158 from Crewe to Holyhead so probably down there to act as a spare pair.
I presume it's a way of keeping all the depots down there competent on 153s.

Direct, one of five. Not been to EMR at all

Thanks - with the amount of 153 moves in the last couple of years it is difficult to keep up.

Have any of the GWR 153s that went to EMR further moved on to another TOC?

Three are with ScotRail (153305, 153370 and 153377) - whether they were in service with EMR first I'm not sure.

153368 is still in service with EMR. 153318, 153372 and 153382 are all stored.

153373 and 153380 went straight to Northern I believe.

153305, 153370 and 153377 went initially to Northern thence to Scotrail for conversion to Baggage Vans

The 14:30 Manchester to somewhere in Wales (Milford Haven??) is pretty much guaranteed to be 2x 153 and a 150 in the Corona timetable.

Yes its booked that although the last 2 times I've worked it has been 153+150 bit should be 2 153s. The 150 goes through to Milford while the 153s detsch at Carmarthen to form the 06:30ish Carmarthen to Manchester next morning.
