Change of plan! 67013+HD06 now retired to Canton for checks after it shut down at Wrenbury earlier.

67029+HD04 are now pencilled in for this evenings Holyhead vice working the 16:53 Manchester which is now swapped to 67017+HD01.

Tomorrow evening Holyhead also planned to have a set swap at Cardiff and is planned to be formed of 67017+HD01.

Due to this the 14:50 Cardiff to Manchester and 18:30 return are now running as a Class 158.

22.35 Manchester-Crewe appears to have reverted to unit - rather oddly the schedules in RTT show as from the December TT change although it was hauled/pushed on some dates and I'm almost certainly had a VAR to dmu some weeks for engineering.

It’s always been booked a unit as it splits off the 21:15 5 car arrival. The 22:32 is a Shrewsbury driver so can’t be planned as a mk4 as they don’t sign them. Of course it can substitute should a unit not be available to split but that requires spare Crewe drivers to work it or some swapping round

Today at Crewe depot (6/2/25):

67015 left light engine (unsure of where it went)

67025 arrived light engine again not sure from where however, it connected to HD02 as that set didn't have a loco on it this morning.

67016 connected to HD07

Well 67017 did the honours for me this evening running more or less on time throughout.
The 1st class product was good with a selection of hot & cold ‘light bites’ available plus a full menu of drinks. No complaints and £50 well spent on the advance single ticket (Cardiff-Picc)
Compared to the GWR 1st class product the day before, there’s only going to be one winner and for half the price.

One thing to note was a strong smell of hot brakes around the Wilmslow area, could be something or nothing.

Even at that, £22 - £30 for 3 courses isn't bad, that's what £7-£10 more than you may find yourself paying at the likes of wetherspoons.

Especially when you can add a £17 (from memory) bottle of house wine for £10!

It's intended to keep the loco on the from the whole way round, it's one of very few circular routes available from Crewe.

Now planned to run tomorrow, all being well in the same path. 025 is only on for the test and will be replaced by 020 afterwards with 025 heading back to Crewe ETD.

67022+HD03 and 67020+HD05 on the Canton starts on Saturday. 05 is on its last day before it finishes for a heavy exam at Crewe and loses its loco to HD02.

Crewe starts should be 67029+HD04 and 67016+HD06.

Sunday is planned for 67029+HD04 on the Cardiff diagram and 67016+HD06 on the Crewe diagram.

Mk4s do smell under heavy or repeated braking, was always noticeable on the ECML when they did a firm stop from 125!

Today’s not been great for the 67s, some being “late from depot” and resulting in late running with stops being skipped.

The 0854 from Cardiff was a 2 car 197 this morning but the auto announcer at Cardiff was saying first class was at the centre of the train!

A couple late off Canton both made Manchester & 1 turned at Wilmslow
Happens very often.

An interesting change I wanted to mention, assuming it hasn't been mentioned here already, is the usage of a MK4 from and to Holyhead on Saturday the 22nd. 1V92/1W96 showing as booked diesel hauled, assuming it's for the six nations match that day. Interesting to actually use the sets from Holyhead on a weekend for once! (Please correct me if I'm incorrect and/or it's RTT having a moment!)

It's booked a 2 car 197. The only time it is ever actually booked a Mk4 is when there's amended diagrams/timetables on event days things may be slightly different but in normal working it's not.

But yes I agree with you as i found out myself a few weeks ago when i mistakenly thought it was a MK4!
