Hi all, long time lurker with a different account but first post today.

I'm currently a driver for Southeastern at Grove Park, I moved home from Greenwich and now live in Gillingham. I have been driving for 4 years and have a depot move to Gill penciled in for Jan 2022, subject to change.

I have been trying to find vacancies for Thameslink at Gillingham for a while now, even for future opportunities but I can never seem to find Gillingham as a Thameslink depot. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Really desperate to be working closer to home now, the early earlies and late lates are killing me - 9hr turns are 10hr 30 with travelling , not bothered if I'm with SE or Thameslink although I know the latter are paid better

Cheers

I've done almost four years too
Congrats !
Yes commuting long distance really ruins you ! I'm so much happier now my commute has halved and I have much better work

To answer your question Gillingham took a huge number of trainees on in around 2016/7 and imagine they have filled the depot up with those. They only sign to Luton or Bedford via the grim medway line so not sure how many they need there

There's normally an internal jobs list that goes out every week or so or keep an eye on the gtr website.
If you move to se Gillingham then you might find it easier to get across once you are in the same location.

Thanks Class2ldn,

Will I be able to see an internal advertisement for GTR? I've signed up for alerts but Gillingham isn't listed as a location..

As I mentioned, GTR would be better, pay wise, but either would be great!

Can't you email GTR directly to express interest? I imagine GTR to be very popular with Southeastern drivers for obvious reasons

Less variety at GTR I imagine

Interesting to note the Gillingham depot only happened last minute went they decided to switch planned TL Tattenham Corner to Rainham services

I must be doing something wrong haha I don't quite understand the internal jobs thing. I signed up on SE careers with my SE email address, my partner has signed up with her Gmail and doesn't see half the jobs I see so I'm guessing the extra ones I see are internal.

Ive signed up on GTR with my Gmail and also with my SE email address and see the same number of jobs (11)?

Different with SE as you only see internal jobs for them and therefore can’t apply for internal GTR positions which come under a different umbrella. Whilst both run by Govia, GTR and SE are two separate entities in recruitment terms unfortunately.

I see. Thanks for clearing that up DA1, hopefully I'll get some luck with signing to for alerts for fully qualified drivers.

I'm a shunter driver at Gillingham Depot but commute from London, so I can share the travel pain.

Does anyone know the email for expressing interest in going mainline or the best place to find out?

I'm no longer a probationer and looking to advance in my career.

thanks in advance.

Normally you’d have to wait for a mainline trainee driver position to come up on the internal job pages however it might be worth a little email to recruitment.

Alternatively see if you could move to a closer depot to work as a shunter driver e.g. Victoria/Grove Park/Slade Green, all within the London area and often recruiting.
