Looking for anyone with personal experience of the gate line of Thameslink.

Looking to buy a season ticket but regularly get off a stop early. Will I always have to get a member of staff to let me through everytime will the gates open. The season ticket will be on one of their smartcards if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance

It completely depends on the stations in question! Not all stations served by Thameslink are even managed by Thameslink.

You'll have to give a bit more detail for us to answer your question - specifically, what season do you intend to buy, and where are you intending to get off.

Fair point, my vagueness hasn't really helped.

I'd be buying a yearly season ticket Elstree and Borehamwood - Kentish Town but would be getting off at West Hampatead Thameslink more often.

Background to my question. I get 75% off season tickets through work. Both tickets (Elstree and Borehamwood to West Hampstead or Kentish Town) cost the same. I get free travel from Kentish Town to Blackfriars.
Basically on the 10 or so times a year I travel into central London it would save me buying a ticket to bridge the gap between the 2 stations mentioned above.
If I had to bother gate staff to get off at West Hampstead everytime though it wouldn't be worth it for me.

Hope I've explained it well enough. Thanks again

I thought season tickets allowed unlimited travel between any two points betwen the two quoted stations on the route (plus some allowable deviations).

The ticket might not work the barrier if you use an intermediate station but starting or finishing your journey short of the destination is perfectly legal when using a season ticket. Just ask a member of staff to let you out manually.

They do, but as is pointed out fairly often the gatelines at intermediate stations have to have this validity manually added, the barriers are generally not clever enough to deal with the question on the fly…

My Wye to Beaulieu Road route barnham season used to work the gates at every GTR station I tried it. Also worked at Waterloo mainline when I put the wrong ticket in by mistake!

It does. Whether gates always work at intermediate stations though...
