There was a thread where people nominated lines in History & Nostalgia. Unfortunately places like Lynton, Lampeter, Brecon, Dulverton, Staithes, Loftus, Alnwick & Consett weren't mentioned and therefore didn't make the cut here.

Clearly I support the Boston to Grimsby via Louth & Mablethorpe line most.
But I also picked the Ripon, Whitby to Scarborough, Woodhead, & York to Beverley lines as they'll be good.

As did I, I should've read down and realised I could pick more than one...

I voted for Mablethorpe as it removed pretty much the whole county of Lincolnshire (bar a couple of routes) from the railway network entirely. My first choice would've been Brockholes to Holmfirth but it wasn't listed. I'd also say the LNWR Leeds "New Line" was a bigger loss than Spen Valley as it took people where they now want to go.

March-Spalding closed in 1982, so wasn't down to Beeching

Voted for 3. The ones I know.
There are several that I would vote for but not on the poll.
One of the biggest losses in Cornwall is the Truro Chasewater, (Blackwater Junction) Goonhavern, St Agnes Perranporth Newquay line. Many people at the time said that was more important than the Par Newquay.
The survey was flawed.
Chasewater is a village. The only ticket receipts taken were Chasewater to Newquay. It was a busy line. Truro to Newquay tickets discarded, along with St Agnes Perranporth Goonhavern etc.

For the record, Beeching never proposed Woodhead for closure. In fact, he selected for further development.

Government incompetence and BR mismanagement saw to that one.
