    Hi everyone,
My mate bought a ticket in advance to travel from Grantham to Kings Cross on Wednesday, due to the overhead line problem his train was cancelled.
He had driven 50 miles to get to Grantham station and paid to park in the car park.
Hull trains gave him a form for compensation but he was told all he’d get back is half of the rail fare.
    Is this correct?
And as much as I accept it’s not the train company’s fault is it fair given the other expenditure he incurred on the day?

How much was his overall journey delayed by?

No he didn’t travel in the end.
They told him the ticket was valid if he drove to Peterborough or Nottingham and travelled from there. But he figured by the time he had driven to either of those places and parked up it wasn’t worth going.
I think he paid £28 for the return ticket.
And about £10 to park for the day.
Thanks for the replies so, much appreciated.

If he didn't travel the correct compensation figure is £0. He needs to approach the retailer for a full refund of train his ticket in accordance with the NRCOT which is technically not compensation.

And separately write to LNER and ask them to consider a refund of the parking fee that was paid.
