Well I thaught I'd make a comment on the GCR's new timetable for 2006, which features quite a bit of new stuff in there, it's been completely rewritten, and at the moment I currently have Working Timetable B with me.

It features the following departures
Code:

Shame theres only 2 diesel turns each day, means only 32 miles of diesel haulage.....why have that when you can come to the ELR for 64? And we have gradients too ;)

GCR is more of a Steam Railway than Diesel so hence the 32 miles of Diesel Haulage. I think you'll find that GCR has Diesel Galas where you most likely find more Diesel Miles than ELR run in a whole week.....

Gradients? If I want Gradients I'll have a hop over to Pickering, thank you. :)

Oh we have double track too. ;)

And at an ELR diesel gala, we run more miles than a GCR Gala.....oh, and we have more variety in our fleet too....years of the same stuff ( Peak, 47, Ped, 25, 37 ) gets boring after a while....

Oh we have double track too.

And?

I don't call 2 miles of 1 in 85, or 8 of 1 in 100 a mini hill!

As I said, pokey little branch line with steep gradients that has a speed restriction of 20mph for 1/3 of it's legnth compared to a Double Track Main Line with a line speed limit of 25mph for 95% of the route and can run at 45mph when not carrying passengers with gradients of 1 in 176 for more than half the route.

Pokey little branch line? We're in the same category as you, ex -secondary main line. Just beacuse you've got another track doesn't make us any different.

Any chance we can be a little bit nicer to each other? As it happens, I'm (nearly!) a signalman on the GC too, and I've been on the North Norfolk for years. I can still go to the ELR for the day and have a good time though - just 'cos it's not 'my' railway, doesn't mean it's not good!

Personally, I find the GC more operationally interesting, with the double track allowing a much more intensive service to be operated, but the ELR wins hands down on scenery and gradients.

Moderator Notice: Please try and keep this on the topic of the Great Central Railway's new (and rather good) timetable and keep calm - it's only a forum!

Anyway, as for the 'debate' about the various preserved lines in the UK, we all have our own charecter and unique 'personality'. Down at the East Kent Railway we may only be about three miles long (and not approved by by some of you) but we are a friendly, happy bunch and our aim is the same as yours should be - not to try and 'better' ourselves against other railways but to restore trains and tracks etc to working order because it is what we like to do. Anyway, where else can you find a whole bunch of ex-Southern Region multiple units, mechanical units, industrial shunters, mainline shunters, lumps of rust, lumps of primer, coaches, wagons, tanks, luggage vans etc under one roof (well, we don't have a roof/shed of any kind but hey) ;)

The Great Central Railway ;)

421393 (Southern MU)
Class 101 (MMU)
No.21 and Bardon (Industrials)
Class 08 and Class 10 (ML Shunters)
Workington Shed (Lump of rust in Swithland Siding, same goes for Brocklebank line actually)
Pink LNER Gresley Coach (Does that count for Primer and Coaches? :P)

I think most railways have all that Damon, especially the Lumps of rust, some would say they're the volunteers actually.....

Ditto Damon and Tom, don't poke comments at each other because you think one railway is superior to another...

I said 'the Great Central Railway'. If it is because there was no capital letter on the 'T', at present (21:11, 29Nov05), your signature doesn't even have the word 'The'

Cause he stole it from someone.

'The' was the first word of the sentence and it should have had a capital 'T'.

Maybe it would have made more grammatical sence to put 'At the' at the start rather than 'The', ah well.
