Typically EMT run Meridians rather than 158s on Liverpool-Nottingham.
I wondered about that because I imagine a 4car Meridian wouldn't offer any more capacity (perhaps less) than doubled up 158s.
Would a 5car set offer any advantage, assuming any were available?
The same trains as per other years. Reports code's for above are 1T62, 1T10, 1T90 and 1L17.It's generally a 7 car 222 fully declassified and this year it's on the 0847 and 1547 services from Nottingham to Liverpool, and the 1152 and 1852 returns.

Don't forget the Annual DBS operated "VSOE" pilgrimage to Liverpool too:-
1Z39 08.14hrs London Victoria - Runcorn VSOE. (arr 12.07)
5Z39 12.16hrs Runcorn - Crewe CS VSOE ECS. (arr 13.21)
5Z40 18.15hrs Crewe CS - Liverpool Lime St VSOE ECS. (arr 19.04)
1Z40 19.25hrs Liverpool Lime St - London Victoria VSOE (arr 00.18)
Why does it only go to Runcorn? Not much use if you are trying to get to Aintree.
I think there will be a fleet of coaches waiting at Runcorn.
Also means not having to hire the Coaches and it is your own fault if you miss the train.I think
Presumably on the return there will be concerns that the returning coaches might be delayed and better to have the train standing at Lime Street rather than at Runcorn!
I suppose avoiding throwing more people into the middle of Liverpool where they can get drunk and be merry before the race is a good thing. Also I guess they have booked through tickets to get to the race course and would be very upset if they couldn't then get out to the course.
Fair enough, assuming your right probably the most sensible thing to do. Looks like the following Birmingham train will get a bit screwed up by it though.

I note a disused siding on Google Earth at Aintree, does anyone know its use and could it be used, stabling a special service etc
I think it'll be coaches back to Lime Street - if you've paid VSOE prices you won't want to join the (enormous) queue at Aintree station and risk missing the train.
18:52 seems tight given the race of the day itself starts at 17:15.
Also I am sure this race is getting later and later every year.

How many watch the Grand National at its new time of 5.15pm (BST) on April 9 will be almost as interesting as which horse wins.
Reaction to the news exclusively revealed in Sportsmail that the biggest race in the sporting calendar will have its latest ever start time to try to attract a bigger audience has largely been positive.
It was welcomed by bookmakers, with Coral betting on how many will watch. It is 6/4 for a return to the 10million-plus days when it was last shown on the BBC.
I think the original post to your answer knows that already as he was knowingly referring to the "Merseyrail" 3rd rail trains........
Don't forget that the train from Aintree doesn't go to Lime Street either.

Anyone who had a couple of quid on the winner of the National might even have recouped their rail fare!
