My local paper often uses terms such as "popular"; we had a thread on this a couple of years ago:
I can never work out why "popular" cafes and fish and chip shops keep closing.

Dread to think how little trade the unpopular ones get.

Businesses across the country close all the time. Maybe the owners are blind to why customers have walked away or indeed, gone elsewhere.

One this evening, from BirminghamLive, that appeared in my Google newsfeed:

Major UK restaurant chain confirms sudden closure of all UK branches
The high street staple will close all its doors after 20 years of business

Chinese dim sum restaurant Ping Pong has confirmed it will close all its locations in the UK in a sad update on social media.

My curiosity got the better of me, so I clicked and read the article. A dim-sum restaurant chain called Ping Pong. Nope, never heard of them. A bit of further investigation reveals that this "major" chain which was a "staple" of the high street had a whopping four branches - all of which were in central London

Whenever I see such click bait articles, often from "Retch" PLC, I block the site from appearing in Google Now.

Click the three dots on the article card and block the source.

I've had Google ping up the same headline from two different Retch brands over the last few days. Something about the compensation offered to Three customers following a recent outage. I presume that if I was actually a Three customer, I'd have got an email from them directly.

Given all their highly paid software developers and their alleged lead in "AI" you'd think that they could at least make it so that the newspapers are from the places that I live in or have visited regularly. Let alone the next level of clickbait sludge from random websites (yes, I somehow hold Retch in slightly more esteem than that)
