Peak fares will need reviewing in 12 months when hopefully things will have settled downfor now:
2. Introduce more 1/2 online singles for return portion - fixed train out flexible/semi flexible to get you home.

Avanti have just got rid of those, interestingly, replaced with reducing the "normal" singles to about 70% of return (though it varies).

Peak fares will need reviewing in 12 months when hopefully things will have settled downfor now:
1. Promote more advanced tickets during the peak & for more shorter journey flows to improve utilisation.
2. Introduce more 1/2 online singles for return portion - fixed train out flexible/semi flexible to get you home.
3. Extend Network rail card to all uk for a 6/12 month trial to encourage rail travel, perhaps allow travel from 9am as well as current no evening peak. 34% off from 9am for an individual/family would be attractive.
You could even have special offers for a fixed period on lightly loaded flows during the peak e.g. London to Southend
Unless the Treasury change their views about any change that has even a risk of resulting in lost revenue, there is no chance of any of these things happening.

Agreed, however if nothing changed after lockdowns we will be running empty trains at peak & too full trains offpeak. Not a good plan for the next 6 months!

You have to wonder who Avanti got approval from (and how) for making Friday entirely Off-Peak.

Probably proved that the trains were so empty there was virtually no revenue to lose....

I bet they were even before COVID. You just don't do one-day business trips on Fridays, it's almost unheard of. Friday mornings are for long weekends away.

One of the things Avanti said they could do as part of their franchise agreement (RIP) was, I believe, that they would increase yield. That doesn't just involve putting prices up - putting them down for quiet trains is as much part of it.
