Does anyone know if the top speed of the croydon trams still remains at 70 kph from 80 kph ? How is this limit enforced ?

Is it likely other tram / light rail systems will have their top speeds reduced as well?

On an interesting side note the Tyne and Wear Metro is looking into increasing its top speed to 100kmh from the current 80 when the new rolling stock comes in.

Tyne and Wear Metro is a fully signalled railway, though. It can’t be compared to tramways operating line-of-sight.

I had no idea that Croydon had reduced their top speed. I'm assuming this was a knee jerk reaction to the accident?

The trams in Nottingham had their limit cut from 80 kmh to 70 kmh. Their Alsthom fleet was already limited to the lower figure anyway, it was only the original Bombardiers that were allowed to do 80.

Nothing has been mentioned about us (metrolink) reducing our speeds.

Going from 50mph to 40mph for us would be a disaster, especially on journeys out to Rochdale.
