Location
PTSO or platform depending on the weather
Hi and welcome

Clapham Junction (south London) for loadsa electrics and the odd freight

Few HSTs out of Paddington now - mainly new electrics. Can't remember if HSTs still work out of St Pancras - may get the odd one at Kings Cross - they are all being withdrawn

Maybe, Stratford (east London), Camden Road (north London) for freight and electrics

All within oyster validity

Acton Main Line to West Drayton are all within Oyster zone and good for freight and stuff out of Paddington. Hanwell is quite pretty in GWR chocolate and cream if taking photos.

Wandsworth Road covers anything from Victoria which doesn’t go via Clapham Junction. It also has some freight and the Overground.

South Kenton is good for photography on the West Coast Mainline

Bethnal Green Overground (Central Line station of the same name is wholly separate) covers everything from Liverpool Street.

St Pancras still has HSTs, as does Kings Cross, with the new trains only just beginning to appear here.

Marylebone has some class 68s on service trains.

London Bridge is hard to beat for sheer number of units.

Check out UKsteam.info for any steam trains that might be running. Realtimetrains is also good for tracking where services are.

Regarding fares, if you intend staying within stations a paper ticket (day travelcard) will be a better choice than Oyster. Oyster will not charge correctly if you accidentally remain on the paid side of ticket gates for too long.
