There's a piece in one if the latest mags that says that the Mk5 driving coaches are now going to be delivered with the normal coaches, not later as originally planned. This means the top and tail won't (shouldn't) happen, at least not with the Mk5s. The article also confirms that the extra coach is a driving end.
This also means that the FC might be in the driving coach.

This also means that the FC might be in the driving coach.

That would be fairly logical, as it reduces the number of different types of coach you have by one, and having 1st at one end makes sense as there is then no reason to pass through it.

Another workable option would be 1st in a normal coach marshalled next to the loco, and Standard wheelchair accommodation in the driving coach.

Anything other than that and you have 4 rather than 3 types of coach.

I guess the idea is that they could run them without the driving car if required, while still having the brake car and first class accommodation.

Would let them marshal longer rakes for extra capacity services.

Think of the the cranks and dont put first by the loco!

Unless the plan has changed...

The First Class is by the loco.

Immediately behind the loco is a catering galley / crew area. The doors there will be "crew only" doors.

I think the idea of having a separate Guard's area in one of the Standard coaches may have changed to have it behind the loco adjacent to the First Class / Catering Galley area.

I was expecting it to be like the Train Managers office on a Pendolino. A desk with access to seat booking information and equipment to make train announcements.
