Work was done at the end of 2018 to increase the gauge clearance in Dean Royd tunnel on the Calder Valley last year - I believe this was the only gauging problem on the whole line and has now been fixed
Indeed, pretty sure they're cleared for both and have done training runs on those diversionary routes.

Probably already been discussed but have the mk 5A’s been cleared for the Calder valley and via castleford?

Here's 68024 at Brighouse on 26th February 2019 with 3Q62, 07.55 Scarborough to Longsight, which went as far as Greetland Junction rev. then back through Brighouse to Bradley Wood Junction and Bradley Junction to continue via Huddersfield.

I'm pretty sure they've run via Castleford and via Healey Mills on test too, though TPE crews don't sign the direct route from Cas to Normanton.

A quick check of my notes confirms that on 31st July 2019 68025 worked 5M68, 09.32 Scarborough to Longsight via Castleford and Healey Mills.

Just seen it on Railcam York ROC 1 on the return SCA-LIV with 68 pushing, driver obviously keen on making up time.

Just had a nice little trip to Manchester on that one. Seats are firm as was the ride. Felt very spacious with lots of light through the big windows. Acceleration was amazing at times, like being on a Metro.
The acceleration is really great, I enjoyed that too:) I’d say the trains have a really great ‘InterCity’ feel to them.

Due to some early inaccurate reporting I turned up at Victoria for the 1156 to LIV only for it to be 185147. 185128 followed on the 1256 which I took back home so it was a nice surprise to see 68027 in Lims Street. I travelled on this as far as LEG before returning back home on 319383.

The diagram worked so far has been:

1E25 06:56 LIV-SCA (09:40)
1F62 10:41 SCA-LIV (13:32)
1E39 13:56 LIV-SCA (16:40)
1F76 17:44 SCA-LIV (20:33)
1J53 20:56 LIV-SBY (21:44)

Worth checking the morning ecs to see what’s happening on the day:

5F48 04:54 Longsight-Man Vic

Hope that helps:)

It's the same one diagram, unless circumstances, like no driver/guard trained on Mk5a sets available then pots luck!! Could be cancelled, terminated replaced by Class 185.

Is there any reason to believe this is not similar acceleration to the Chiltern Mk3 sets with 68s?
Possibly a bit better than Chiltern with their 6-car sets.
But surely not up to 350/390/802/22x acceleration?
And the comparison with 185s - are the 68+Mk5s really any quicker off the mark?
The hill-climbing of the 185s is exceptional.

Fab ride in First Class today upto Scarborough and back! Comfy seats and the noise is fabulous. Cracking team onboard too, you know who you are!

I too went to Scarborough from York today. A nice experience, my ony criticism is the internal configuration. The seats don't align with the windows. But the extra capacity on TPE services overall is by no means of more importance and am sure is very much welcomed by the travelling public.

When booking business travel, we have a number of options to justify First Class. Sadly 'To enjoy the thrash' isn't one of the options!

They feel very nippy compared to older loco hauled coaching stock. Am sure there are figures out there to compare them to multiple units. At the end of the day it is a pretty big lump pulling not much.

That's what I thought! It's the same power (I'm assuming) as the freight 68s so a little 5 carriage passenger train is light work for it

Made it out to Manchester Victoria yesterday lunchtime to catch the set on its first return leg to Liverpool - was fortunate to snap a pic of it alongside a 185 as it pulled into the adjacent platform. Wish we'd had time to take a trip out to Liverpool and back, but sadly was not to be (we did manage to get a 195 back to the Airport though!). Hopefully I'll get to ride on one in a few weeks - my other half has been wanting to visit his friend in Huddersfield...

Longsight to Man Vic Cancelled "due to a problem at the depot".
