So definitely no new stock by Friday 16 August and (thankfully we're travelling late-morning when things aren't so bad) we'll just have single 185s Piccadilly-Huddersfield-Newcastle? We're on the following:

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/Y01045/2019/08/16/advanced
TPE plans to keep 185s on the Piccadilly - Hull services throughout the franchise. Liverpool - Newcastle services should eventually be worked by Nova 1 Class 802s - see https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/tpe-nova-1-class-802-2-progress.163414/.

The 68 looks good, and I think all the Crewe-Wavertree and return are on today which is promising.

It is going to be very interesting to see how platforms 13/14 at Picadilly cope with these longer trains. Badly I suspect, adding to existing chaos.

The problem with the way these platforms is being used with the new timetable is that you have passenger flows that used to wait on larger platforms under the main shed cramming on to what was already a rammed platform. Tonight I experienced an Edinburgh TPE followed by a York TPE followed by a Lime Street East Midlands. Absolute carnage. These are all major intercity trains and 3 sets of intercity passengers are being held in a fictional pig pen by a load of understandably less than bothered minimum wage 'security staff'. The signage on the platform is woeful. It is absolutely pathetic. View attachment 65585 View attachment 65585 View attachment 65587 View attachment 65585 View attachment 65587

When the longer trains come some of the carriages will sit back past the pig pen onto the narrowest part of the platforms. Chaos will become even more chaotic and just bloody dangerous. You would not let your Mum catch a train off this platform, simple as that.

Building the chord without platforms 15/16 was a monumental cock-up.
It's very unusual to see them that crowded unless there's disruption, tbh.
As for the signage, I disagree. There are at least 8 PIS screens at the Oxford Road end, and another half dozen at the airport end; plus the actually very good displays upstairs.
As for the "minimum wage security staff" the ones I have spoken to are really, really good. They go out of their way to offer information to passengers, help with bags & luggage where someone's struggling, and frankly seem far better informed than some of the TOC staff at Piccadilly.
As for the Mk5a and other longer trains, passengers will get used to them. As it is, people just throng at the bottom of the stairs onto 14. All that does is mean they all try to board the rearmost carriage of a 185/158/319/195 or whatever has stopped on its mark. Longer trains should actually ease the problem as the stairs will be closer to the middle of the train and encourage people to go both ways, speeding up dwell times and spreading the load out along the train more.

"Marston Vale mafia"
From experience at Euston people won't go back on themselves, there's some sort of psychological barrier to it. At the platforms where a coach or so is behind the end of the ramp (e.g. 8 and 11) the back coach can be nearly empty but coaches further forwards full and standing.

One went past me before on the up slow near Moseley Hill. Are they already running?
Been doing training runs all week and nights with 68s and mk5 sets, just got to love the crewe cams on railcam uk
As I understand it they were running Crewe-Wavertree Junction Thursday and Friday during the day with Nova 3 sets, with one test run into Lime Street on Wednesday night. Happy to be corrected if I’ve got that wrong:)

Maybe even two visits to York.
Thank you for the shout:)

Might view that - guessing the path is going to be done as a VSTP on the day?
Looks like we do have two to look forward to:)

Freightliner operated, with no return path (as yet).

Does anyone know if the depot at Scarborough is open yet? I did wonder if this might be a move to transfer a Nova 3 set there for depot training.

All runs TPE operated.

5E68 runs over the core route, with sectional timings of a service train, and with the usual calling pattern. I wonder if this is some kind of passing out turn for drivers and or onboard staff? Perhaps training too for platform staff?
