Practical handling runs have continued for Scarborough crew, with workings Wednesday to Friday. On the Wednesday 68025 with TP04 switched from the practical handling runs on to passenger services, being replaced by 68030 with TP12.

Fingers crossed that as more Scarborough crews are trained the running of the passenger diagrams will become more reliable.

Nova 3 in passenger service
Alterations to services this week have been down to a continued shortage of both drivers and guards.

Monday to Wednesday saw only minor changes with alterations confined to the Manchester Victoria to Liverpool section.

Thursday was worse with part cancellations of both diagrams. Friday saw no Nova 3 passenger trains operate after the 10:41 Scarborough-Liverpool terminated short at Manchester Victoria, again due to a shortage of train crew.

As always, all reasons for alterations given are taken from publicly available sources, I’m happy to be corrected if anyone knows better

1F76 was held at York for 40 minutes due to a police incident between Garforth and Micklefield which caused a lot of delays.

I was waiting for it having stayed in Leeds for an extra hour in the pub as the previous one was cancelled.

1F76 was 60L at Victoria. I assume that it was cancelled from Victoria to Lime St to get back on diagram. Whether or not they had a driver for this segment is I guess academic.

1F76 was shown on the York departure screens as terminating at Manchester Victoria, so I think the switch there to 1E51 was a planned move. To be fair to TPE, I think they did their best to keep the job moving last night!

I should probably have added that we are entering a period where overnight trains on Saturday into Sunday are replaced by buses, so this is probably the reason for the change, given the timings of 1P98.

Now, at one time, there was something called the Transpennine Route Strategy, which meant a viable route was (almost) always provided overnight between York and Manchester, but that has long-since ceased to be the case. I recall one night being on such a train at Bradford Interchange, where the train made an unadvertised stop to reverse, but a young couple got off and left the station by climbing over a little wall next to the bus station!

I notice that this evening we 1T86 2246 Scarborough to York, rather than the train running through to Manchester Piccadilly.

I suspect that if a Nova 3 turned up somewhere unusual, there might well be some enthusiasts popping over the wall onto (rather than exiting) the station
