A question about the TPE student fare offer. A colleague is looking at trains from Preston to Manchester on Monday and the TPE journey planner is giving a single AP fare of £3.70 on the 0847 train. This is available online only, at http://www.tpexpress.co.uk/train-tickets/student-discounts/

Is it right that this offer overrides the £12 YP minimum fare before 1000?

Yes; the minimum fare doesn't apply to advances. If you look here on BR Fares, you will see that the advance fares aren't suffixed by a warning about the minimum fare.

Edit: actually, that link isn't a great example since the fare you are quoting is the special TPE 50% offer and the link only shows the standard 34%-discount - the equivalent fare is that shown at £4.95. But yes, no minimum fare is correct.
