With the lockdown etc, there should be plenty of spare paths and trains available so that TPE can train its drivers and crew on the new class which has not yet been fully introduced and is years late. Since doctors and nurses in very close contact with CV positive patients have some good PPE equipment, surely it can't be beyong the whit of TPE to undertake the provision of such kit and get the training done. I am aware that at least one TOC has been doing training during Covid.

If the experience is anything like on GWR then the instructors and trainees will soon get covid, the whole training bubble things don't work.
Also the railway will never get the same decent PPE that is saved (rightly) for healthcare professionals.

Not too sure what the point of this thread is?

Training is happening at TPE but on a first come first served basis. There are currently several conductors who have been trained and are undergoing exams such as the traction exams. Trainee drivers are also undergoing training both new to the railway (over zoom) and new to the business (with specific DI’s on specific training diagrams).

But the reality is the ‘new’ style training takes much much much longer to carry out with being largely one on one and CANNOT be done in public service at the moment due to the health and safety risks. The focus currently is to keep as many trains running as physically possible with reduced staffing across the board.

There’s also still new members of the MK5a fleet which haven’t been accepted two years later.

Not every single trainee/DI bubble got Covid. Trainees have not caused a rampant spread of Covid through the business. Funny how the worst affected is the most workshy depot in the entire world (yes, your lot.) Especially convenient the Plymouth outbreak was right before Christ,as. Its like you lot think we haven't seen it before with your lazy depot.

Perhaps stop blaming us for the actions of other staff, who were the ones overcrowding messrooms.

Rubbish. Absolute, baseless rubbish. I do wish people would stop spreading such tripe.

We already have the same level of protective face mask as the NHS, what more is needed? Level 2 PPE for HCPs is required due to the likelihood of coming in to contact with someone who has Covid. It’s not required for TOCs.

I didn’t catch Covid, neither did my DI. In fact, no one at my depot has caught Covid who's in a training bubble. In fact, I don’t actually recall any DI/Trainee bubble contracting virus at GWR? If they did however, it would be picked up through testing and dealt with, as per the policy, proving it works.

Trouble is down here several so called bubbles ended up with covid. Problem being that test is done and recipients not getting the result for up to 5 days . The result comes back positive but after a few days that's much much too late.

Work shy depot??!! I have no idea who you have been talking too mate. We do the longest jobs on GWR , virtually none that are less than 9 hours long and most are pushing on 10 hours. Sitting spare isn't a concept a plymouth driver knows.
And by the way, its a bit low to point out the height of our outbreak was leading up to Christmas. Some of us spent Christmas in self isolation , one driver down west lost his wife and another spent christmas on a ventilator in hospital so in future please think before you type as having covid at christmas really isnt a happy coincidence!!!!!

Training is taking place on passenger trains.

Apologies on that, I was more referring to conductor side of training on that note in regards to traction training, which is now largely limited to the cab.

Driver training is still fully happening on passenger services as normal.

Trains don't necessarily have to move for training to take place.

I am sure all TOCs are trying their best to get on top of their training backlogs. However with the various measures that are in place, progress is inherently slow.
