The scenario:

I tested positive on 9th November. Symptoms started on 2nd.

My wife tested positive on 16th November. Symptoms started on 12th.

NHS Track and Trace told me that I had to isolate until 14th, which I did. I've now been told by track and trace that I have to isolate again until 24th because my wife tested positive. This can't be right. The reason she tested positive is because I gave her the virus. She can't then give it back to me.

The upshot is that now I'm breaking the law if I leave the house before next Wednesday. There appears to be no way I can contact track and trace to argue this. Any ideas?

Doesn't really give the answer. It says I should isolate for 14 days, which would be the case if my wife was the first in the household to test positive. But I was the first, and as such have served my "time" already. The only thing I can see that should change is that my wife was due to come out of isolation today as a result of my positive test, but now the clock resets to the first day of her symptoms which means she can't come out until Sunday.

Same!

Wife had it first so ten days for her
I isolate for 14

On day 12 I feel unwell, she has been allowed out for two days.

My test is positive so I start ten days from my symptoms

My wife starts 14 days as a contact of me

Test and Trace give two different answers, one says no she has to start at 14 days as a result of me

Another person at T&T says the latest FAQs they have (yesterday) says she doesn't as she has had it. We just need to stay apart

The reality is no one seems to know so we are playing it safe and she isn't going out til next Sunday

The ason she tested positive is because I gave her the virus. She can't then give it back to me.

Unless it's spread to others through touching something at home she has touched and then you go out and touch something

I've had a similar situation. Me and my wife with different isolation dates despite testing on the same day - I think we had different symptom dates. The app gave us the dates once we'd input our positive test code. I also completed my contact tracing online.

In addition, I've had multiple calls from T&T due to the contact I had with the person(s) from whom I probably got the virus. I always started the call by telling them about my positive test and the isolation date according to the app. Most of the callers told me that the isolation period associated with my positive test trumps any "potential symptom-related' dates. So that's what I've stuck to.

Having said that, I'm free to go out today but my wife isn't until Saturday. Doesn't seem fair to rub it in so I'll wait a couple of days to avoid any violent reaction.

That's really decent

Update

T&T just called, as I got ill during my initial fourteen days my wife does not have to do the fourteen days now I started with it

If time had elapsed from my fourteen days and say a week later I'd tested positive then she would have to stay at home

This is the latest govt advice supplied to them this morning
