Help. I would like to know the role of the traffic Commissioners, what they controlled, etc I am really interested how it worked before bus de-regulation. Can anyone point me to a book or website on the subject, please?

Thanks

Try this book - 75 Years of Traffic Commissioners
Geoffrey Jones, who retired as a solicitor in 2004 after over 40 years in practice in Bristol, specialised in bus and lorry licensing throughout England and Wales from the late 1960s. He was a speaker at the Association’s 2005 Conference ~ Transport Anniversaries and the material he prepared has been extended and published in book format. It charts the whys and wherefores of the rôle of the Traffic Commissioners from 1931 to the present day, drawing on both Mr Jones’ experience of the traffic courts and extracts from the Annual Reports of the Traffic Commissioners.

The Association believes that publication of this book fills a major gap in the history of regulation of the road transport industry, both freight and passenger, and will be essential reading for any student or historian of the industry.
