German media are reporting a train collision in or near Bettenbourg between an empty passenger and a freight train. One driver killed, services to France disrupted.

The cause of the accident is unclear.

According to the responsible ministry, the deceased is a train driver. Two people suffered serious injuries, according to the news agency dpa. The freight train had come from France, the passenger train had been travelling towards France. ...

A passenger train and a freight train collided between Bettembourg (L) and Zoufftgen (FR) on Tuesday morning at approximately 8:40am.

According to information provided jointly by the police and CFL, there are four injured. Of these four, two are seriously injured and still trapped on the train.

Shortly before noon, police confirmed that one of the injured did not survive the accident.

In a press conference at 12:30pm , Interior Minister Dan Kersch and Infrastructure Minister François Bausch confirmed the driver of the passenger train, a Luxembourgish CFL employee, did not survive the crash.

Both trains will now be pulled apart to reach the victim....
The freight train was a SNCB-Logistics working, hauled by engines 1309 and 1330.
