    Hi all.

Sorry to see few failing the assessment.
I'm really nervous about the competency based interview - I'm not really from a mechanic or engineering background but have science background and do enjoy DIY, flat pack etc!
Like others, I thought the online maths / language tests were quite hard but was surprised to find I've made it through the first stage. Have my assessment coming up in the next few days, and seeing the negatives, I'm not that optimistic now!

Bencronin - I got the same date as you! Best of luck!

    Best of luck to everyone!

What makes you so sure it’s a no?
Was the assessment day that intense?

Some of the questions on the mechanical were unnecessary in my opinion. Waste of time for us who didn’t work with tools before. If they provide the training they shouldn’t ask some of the questions they’ve asked. It was my second interview with TFL in my life and I hated it. The job I’m in now is boring but well paid, interview was nice and made me feel that they want me from the start rather than treating like another number

How long did the whole assessment take? Was there many questions on the interview? Just feel like the preparation email they sent out is quite vague? Hard to know what to focus for my preparation ‍♂️

Sorry you felt that you may not have done well, but don't lose hope!
Were they theoretical questions (regarding mechanical test) or on tools they had? For the competency based interview - did they have more than one interviewer?

    Thanks Neotarum.
    Good luck to you.
Hopefully we can step up to the mark.
Sorry to hear others haven't got through.
But I'm sure they will think this assessment is the practice run for the next time this opening comes up.

I have this coming up soon as well! Im worried about the mechical test like you guys, is it a paper test or do you have to use actual tools?

What depot were the TM positions advertised for, just curious as I worked at a few LU depots a few years ago?

They didn't mention an exact depot . They advertised that you could be working anywhere in north, south, east or west london.

Ok that’s a no from me too! I thought it was unfair as they do want you to have experience of doing things related to electrical and mechanical work, and not just the basics DIY you do at home. - where they said “think flat pack furniture”. For example, questions about air compressors. I’ve never come across Ikea furniture requiring air compressors! I think I misread the requirements, or the wording wasn’t good. No experience necessary, full training will be provided etc to me means if you have the right attitude and are willing to learn, that’s the way forward. What they meant was, you need to know the things, but you don’t need formal qualifications. If you search for job description and find the one from February 2019 you’ll see what they are really looking for. That would have saved a lot time on my part and theirs.

Best of luck to everyone else

I felt the same. I also wrote on the feedback form, hopefully they will design less ambiguous job description next time. Like I said, if they had the 2019 Feb version, I would not have applied!

Everyone has got to try again next time around.

Seems like the no experience required meant no experience required on rolling stock as training will be given. However mechanical experience was required.
    Poorly worded advert.

    Apparently so.
I have my assessment on 14th February which should give me enough time to revise anything I should need to know, (Hopefully).
Has anybody on here actually been accepted yet?

Even in the advert on the internal website for current Tfl employees it stated that its is a good way to start a career with LU, as we provide training’ and ‘while previous experience in a mechanical or electrical environment would be beneficial, we are also interested in hearing from people who have an interest in taking things apart and putting them back together.” .......

I had my interview last week and thought it went rather well. Although I found one of the interviewers rushing me which threw me off. I feel i got majority of the questions correct and am quite competent with tools. I can understand people struggling with some of the questions, it took me by surprise too. The requirements should have been made more clearer. I wouldn't give up hope though as I have heard they alter the benchmark if too many people don't meet it.

    Hi Whizz,
Were the questions more mechanical or electrical based?

They were both. For the electrical just go through the bitesize link on the email. It was fairly straightforward. For the mechanical questions you'd probably need to have worked in the industry to know the answers.
