Hi all, I was curious recently, after the DSR did Train of Lights in 2018, in 2019 much more heritage railways picked it up. But now, how many heritage railways run a 'Train of Lights'? I can think of a few but i know there will likely be more

I travelled on the Mid Hants train of lights , or whatever it was called, last December. Very well organised and a witty commentary but I wouldn't bother again. In fact I was waiting for the journey to end after an hour of it. It didn't appear to be very well patronised and the website had a lot of special offers after Xmas. Also I seem to remember that it was on the pricey side for families. But...these things have to be tried.

Ok I knew about SVR didn't know they had stopped and the Mid hants one I have heard of. I went on the NYMR version of that which was heavily similar but it was amazing...the trip was to Lewisham and back.

/It must have been a long evening......
Actually not that long. It's half hour to Levisham around 10-15 minutes to let the 9F run round, and half hour back. so around 1hr 15 minutes. It was really fun! Not been since then though because I'm always doing something else in October and Pickering is a little bit hard to get to.

Swanage is now operating the Polar Express in place of the Train of Lights.

I think the context was that your original post (#4) referred to Lewisham!

That's actually upsetting! They did a good one I saw clips it looked good, like your typical 'light train'...

In terms of the topic I have done research and know some (Epping Ongar and NNR) however in cases they either stop running or switch to the hi tech version with Voiceover Man like NYMR and MHR..

We did the one on the Bluebell Railway in 2021 and 2022 (after 2020 plans to do the Dartmouth one were scuppered). A very pleasant festive evening - and in fact my children often ask if we can go again.

I know that you meant Levisham on the North York Moors line; but your post said Lewisham, which is in south-east London. So AIUI the humorous intent of the reply (#5) was that it would have been a very long trip from Yorkshire ... Probably not worth any more analysis though!

I have just had an email from the EOR stating that they will be doing the Train Of Lights this year
Yes I have heard about that, it's like the MHR and NYMR, with more colour changing lights.

I did some research and after watching a bluebell railway 'steamlights' trailer from 2021, I found a company that provides 'light trains'. This is dated back to 2019, some of these I know do not run anymore, some I don't know about.

Norfolk Lights Express, NNR. Winter Lights Spectacular, NVR. Steam In Lights, SVR. Northern Lights Express, NYMR. I also know about some more that were not listed by this company in a video they did (again this video was dated back to 2019) so I also know about the EOR, Bluebell Railway, Great Central Railway and of course, DSR. Again, some may not be running.

I just found this amazing video by The Fenman showing ALL (I think) the Train of Lights in 2019.
