Good afternoon Ladies and Gents,

I hope you are all well, safe and healthy during these unprecedented times!

I am an architectural designer and I was hoping to be guided or pick someone's brains on when any TOC or freight line company would be hiring again for a trainee Driver.

I last applied for South eastern TOC and they put me in a 'talent pool' and its been 3 years now so I'm not holding my breath with them anymore.

I am willing to move anywhere across the country to be able to get the opportunity to become a Passenger Train driver or even a Freight Train driver (granted the assessments need to be passed first)

I've read through some of the forum and most on here are very helpful and polite. Again apologies if, what I'm asking doesn't make much sense.

I look forward to hearing from you all,

Warm Regards,

Mert

Million dollar question that ...

You’ve been through the process yourself so will no doubt be aware of the enormous competition you’ll face, which is growing in numbers by the day

London is your best bet. Loads of the TOCs run services into and out of Paddington and there are regularly advertised trainee positions up there. Plus you’ve got LU.

The recruitment seems to get managed centrally now. I’ve got contacts in my two local TOCs, good ones as well (current drivers, union reps) and even they don’t seem to know exact dates of job advert postings

Good luck mate

Hi,

Ensure to check different TOC and FOC websites frequently as recruitment is usually at random, also kind members also post live vacancies on this forum however best to do your own due diligence and keep an eye on the websites yourself habitually.

Linkden can also be a shout could be worth following TOCS and FOCS on there also as they occasionally promote advertisements on there too.
