I am travelling from London Waterloo to Alexandra Palace Saturday 25th January 2019.

I have planned (BLOO) Waterloo to Oxford Circus, change (VIC) Oxford Circus to ?? change then Great Northern to Alexandra Palace.

Which is the quickest / easiest change Highbury and Islington or Finsbury Park?

Or is there a better way to Alexandra Palace when travelling on the mainline from Southampton?

TIA

Oxford Circus to Finsbury Park on the Victoria Line then change to Great Northern.

Alternatively take the Piccadilly Line to Wood Green and get a W3 bus from there. If you’re going to the Excursions Show they are also running a shuttle bus from both Wood Green and Alexandra Palace station to the show

Agreed with Mag Seven, change at Oxford Circus & Highbury & Islington. Both are cross platform so saves having to climb up the stairs at Finsbury Park

Agree with Highbury & Islington being the best place to change. Highbury is cross platform whereas Finsbury is a spiral staircase and a steepish set of stairs to the National Rail platforms

You might want to check National Rail Enquiries for Southampton to Alexandra Palace.

That comes up with a number of routes involving a change at Clapham Junction.

Changing at Highbury & Islington rather than Finsbury Park has the possible disadvantage that you are restricted to the services that start from Moorgate.

One of the routes sends you all the way round the Overground (East London Line) from Clapham Junction to Highbury & Islington.

The NRE journey planner often suggests changing at Clapham Junction but this isn’t necessary and in reality will take longer.

The most straightforward way is to travel to Waterloo, then Bakerloo Line to Oxford Circus, cross platform change to the Victoria Line, onwards to Highbury where it is another cross platform interchange to Great Northern to Alexander Palace.

AAP is only served by Moorgate trains save for the odd exception at the extremities of the day.

Wood Green tube station is only 10 mins walk from Alexandra Palace station, so I would just take the tube to there. Probably easist way in terms of changes would be Bakerloo to Picadilly Circus and then Picadilly direct to Wood Green. At Wood Green, take the bus if available or walk (the hard part is walking up the hill from Alexandra Palace station)

Reinstate the Northern Heights plan and catch a tube from Moorgate to the original Alexandra Palace station?

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Went Bakerloo to Oxford Circus and then Victoria Line to Highbury and Islington. Worked an absolute treat with literally 2-3 minutes wait at each interchange.

Aside from two trains in the very early morning, all trains to Alexandra Palace run from Moorgate anyway.
