Just after confirmation that I've researched correctly.

I shall be travelling around London with my nephew (he's under 10) over two days. I have Oyster loaded with Disabled Railcard.

Is it correct that my nephew travels free on all TfL services when I use my PAYG Oyster? Also what's the etiquette for using the barriers together?

That's right - use the automated wide gate (with your nephew going through first but in one go, so to speak) if there's no staffed manned barrier.
