As per the title, which bus route has the most stops. I would’ve said a bus route like the 555 (Lancaster-Keswick) but I’m pretty sure the title would go to an urban route...

Most long routes are fairly limitedstop anyway. I think the winner would probably be some lengthy suburban service in the likes of Birmingham or London. To set a benchmark, I've counted about 130 stops on the 11A route in Birminghan.

Coastliner 843 Leeds to Scarborough or 840 Leeds to Whitby Must be contenders with over 100 stops each

Longer rural routes might be in with a shout here, particularly in my neck of the woods where services are hail-and-ride between the towns and villages along the way. Every farm road end is potentially a stop, especially in the mornings and afternoons where school kids don't have a dedicated bus.

685 Newcastle Upon Tyne to Carlisle comes in at around 115 stops. I'd imagine the 843 beats it though! Edit- I'm that bored that I counted em- 843 Peasholm Park to Leeds comes in at approx 130 stops!

Not a UK record, but the X26 in London comes in at 70 stops - is that a London record?

The X18 from Newcastle to Berwick via the coast comes in at a whopping 158 stops according to Google

That figure is wildly wrong - it is a limited stop route and only has 14 stops.

In London it is very likely the night buses will easily have the most stops as they are usually multiple day routes combined.

The N44 has 82 stops southbound/84 stops northbound.

I've queried the bustimes.org database:
  1. 35 - Elgin - Aberdeen – a couple of journeys have 165 stops
  2. Trent Barton V1 – 163 stops. Sort of cheating as it's registered as a circular – a very squashed circle.
  3. Yorkshire Coastliner 843 – 160 stops
  4. T2 - Bangor - Aberystwyth – 158 stops
  5. Squarepeg 9 - Wortley - White Rose Centre – a couple of journeys have 158 stops
Code:
Trip.objects.annotate(count=Count('stoptime')).order_by('-count')

I never knew the villager (it lost the V1 around 2 years ago) was registered as a circular route. I suppose it is because of the circular route around Burton but then again the X38 is registered with a 'outbound' and 'inbound' and that run the opposite way round the circle the villager does in Burton.

It appears to still have the V1 name on the published timetable data.

I think that is because they are still using the same bus registration looking at the gov website which was back when the V3 (now run by spare buses) was part of the villager brand as well as the service number in both has 'villager V1' and 'villager V3'. Other than the council run live bus screens there is no mention of the number V1 on the ground.

When I was a kid, the LT 140 route went all the way from Mill Hill to Heathrow - a fair run - serving all the stops en route; I seem to remember this was claimed, at the time, to be the longest (red / "central area", as opposed to green / "country area) LT route. And the 158 went from Watford Junction to Ruislip Lido via South Harrow, which felt to me (as a kid in South Harrow) to be a wondrous route, going to unimaginably distant places at each end...

It's still listed as the V1 in trentbarton's data feed which is linked from the link I posted. That's probably why the council's screens say it too.
