Probably...just not by train.I'm sure we've been here before
Wouldn’t Washington come under the category of ‘doesn’t have a railway station but close to a settlement that does’ i.e Sunderland?Peterlee, 28000 people without a rail link (and mostly without a job too ) Ashington- 27000, Consett- 24000, Stanley -20000. But the north eastern winner has to be Washington area, with a population of 70000.

Oswestry station is still open as part of the preservation scheme. Admittedly you can only go for a short ride along the line and back (no platforms at the other end), but the town still has a station.Oswestry. Not sure Gobowen counts if I'm honest.
Does this include towns that don’t have a rail station but are very close to another settlement that does?

Even Manchester Exchange was technically in Salford... and given it had a shared platform with Victoria, one could theoretically make an inter-city journey just by walking down the platform!Aren't Salford Crescent and Salford Central in Salford anyway?
Yes, & I believe a previous thread concluded the largest Scottish town that’s never had a railway station was DunoonCoggeshall and Canvey Island in Essex that have never had a Railway station.
Mansfield Station is around 200m from the market place! What about Mansfield no station actually in the town itself ?
