The Cross Country Aberdeen to Penzance service is famously the longest direct service in the UK. However, there are others that last a good long time and cover a good few hundred miles.

So, what are they? (Distances would be really helpful :) .)

I'm pretty sure that the top five are:

Penzance to Dundee (XC) - 647mi (disallowed since it's a subset of ABD-PNZ)
Plymouth to Aberdeen (XC) - 639mi (disallowed since it's a subset of ABD-PNZ)
Euston to Inverness (CS) - 582mi
Kings Cross to Inverness (GR) - 568mi
Euston to Fort William (CS) - 560mi
Euston to Aberdeen (CS) - 525mi
Kings Cross to Aberdeen (GR) - 523mi

Virgin Trains East Coast London-Aberdeen & Inverness. The Highland Sleeper from London to Fort William, Inverness and Aberdeen.

And for one that doesn't go north of central Scotland, EMT Norwich-Liverpool. Definitely the longest Sprinter journey!

Plenty of journeys which are not as long in distance, especially as the crow flies rather than rail mileage, but take ages. Some of the ones from stations like Manchester Piccadilly to West Wales spring to mind. Then you've got cross-country oddities which weave all over areas of the country like Great Malvern - Brighton covering a huge wiggle over the South.

Not strictly in the UK but as they start here, I would add

London to Bourg St Maurice
London to Marseille

Glasgow Central to Newquay must register reasonably high on that list too.

435 miles.

The route between Southampton and Edinburgh via Reading, Birmingham NS, Derby, Sheffield, Leeds and York comes to a total of 488.6 miles when I sum the distance of each respective leg according to RailMiles.

My mistake - I didn't sum the legs, RailMiles does the shortest possible routing which is up the WCML.

Came here to say this. I have been told on this forum before it's mostly making short journeys, but my experience is it has a large number of people doing longer journeys. I'm never the only one doing Norwich to Manchester.
