Trivia: stations busier at the weekend than in the week.

I was wondering whether there are any stations which have a six or seven days a week service which are busier on a Saturday or Sunday rather than any one of Monday to Friday. So stations served only at the weekend don’t count. So to be extra clear the highest daily passenger count must be on a Saturday or Sunday as opposed to a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday and trains must serve the station 6 or 7 days a week.

Possible candidates would be Boxhill and Westhumble (small community, but nearest station to a decent outdoor tourist attraction) and Covent Garden (very busy leisure destination). Not sure whether the stats are available, but would be interested in thoughts.

Liverpool Central

Any station only served on a weekend, e.g. Lakenheath, Buckenham

Beaulieu Road, in the New Forest, is generally considered to have more weekend use, (in normal conditions), but im not at all sure if there’ll be figures to support that...

Quite possibly Edale on the Hope Valley (Manchester - Sheffield) line.

Similarly Berney Arms must (in normal times) get more patronage on Sundays for folk visiting the rural locality.

I've overheard a guard say that Avoncliff is/was better used at weekends - I'd imagine with walkers and those using the pub, and those sitting by the river especially in Summer.

Substantially more trains on a Sunday too. I went today on the midday train from Norwich and got back on the return leg. Not a soul in sight.

Bicester Village might qualify, perhaps not first thing compared to weekdays, but in the afternoon on a Saturday.

Box Hill and Westhumble used to be practically deserted on weekdays, but would attract quite a significant amount of traffic at weekends from cyclists and walkers.

Possibly Matlock Bath and Cromford.
All stations between Settle and Appleby
Windermere

Chester maybe in with a shout, races etc?

Maybe a quietish station that is near a football ground and generates good numbers on match days?
Hawthorns
Coventry Arena (especially if Coventry City ever play at home again!)

I'm not sure about exact figures, but Cambridge station attracts a huge amount of weekend traffic. It can certainly feel as busy on a Saturday as it does on a weekday in the peak.

Although that would only be about 20 Saturdays per year, less when matches get moved to Sundays or Mondays for TV.

Entwistle - for the same reason. I've used both of these myself for weekend walking purposes.

Delamere and Middlewood might also fall into the same category (although Delamere is probably more accessible and useful to nearby residents/ commuters than ENT and MDL)

Covent Garden (very busy leisure destination).
Underground stations busier on Saturdays than Mon-Fri:

Leicester Square
Piccadilly Circus
Camden Town
Knightsbridge
Covent Garden
Notting Hill Gate
Richmond
Heathrow Terminals 123
Queensway
Hyde Park Corner
Kensington (Olympia)
Heathrow Terminal 4
Cockfosters

Cockfosters a bit of a surprise. The only ones busier on Sunday than Mon-Fri are the two Heathrows (interesting, given its emphasis on business travel).

Are business travellers (especially inbound) maybe more likely to use HEx than the tube?

In response to the OP, probably anywhere that primarily serves a large shopping centre or sports stadium will be busier at weekends than weekdays I’d imagine.

Don’t forget to factor in around 20 home matches for Wasps RUFC, who normally attract crowds of 10000+

When me and a few friends used to go to London we would book in at the South Mimms Premier Inn and just taxi to/from Cockfosters, as you could book there for around 1/3 the price of a similar hotel chain in Central London! (not quite sure just looking now why we always used Cockfosters rather than High Barnet actually, I think some of my juvenile friends just used to enjoy giggling at the name :D)

Although we missed the last tube once and resorted to the night bus...that featured some rather interesting passengers!

The Stations on the Ale trail were busy when I last went on it a few years back.
Stalybridge, Greenfield, Marsden, Huddersfield.
Huddersfield could get pretty hectic with the Ale Trail on a Saturday, particularly if it was any combination of: (a) also a Home match for HTFC; (b) the Food Festival weekend; (c) a particularly sunny day... However pre-COVID there's no way the ale trail generated more usage than all the inbound and outbound commuter traffic I'd have thought. The others listed, along with Dewsbury on the other hand almost definitely would, as there's nothing much else there besides the pub!

The one that sprang to mind when I saw this thread was Bordesley, again with the caveat of there being a match on.

I can imagine Skegness and Whitby fitting the criteria.
Certainly Middlesbrough to Whitby during the summer & Goth weekends. Many times I have een the 10:30 departure from Middlesbrough be rammed and standing by the time it leaves Nunthorpe and Great Ayton on a Saturday. Plenty of schoolkids use the service Monday to Friday but you can usually get a seat. I'm certain @yorksrob can testify to how busy it gets on a Saturday (i'm sure he's started a thread somewhere).

I certainly can. Alas I can't link to the thread just yet as I'm on android.

I've had the same experience of the 10:30 off of Middlesborough being full and standing by Battersby on seversl occasions.
