Just a bit of fun I was just wondering what all your favourite ‘special liveries’ were on the network, past or present. I think 91110 Battle of Britain is my personal favourite but I do also like the BR logo 66 for some reason!

Always used to like the mainly all white livery of Class 101 (or similar class) DMUs, the ones with the 12 inch blue horizontal "go faster" stripe.

Date back to late 1970s/early 1980s, I believe.

Same, probably my favourite. Not sure why but large logo really suits the 66.
I think so too, I remember years back I saw someone had done a photoshop of a 66 in the yellow and blue BR logo livery and I thought ew, but in reality it does look good! :D

GWR green on 47079, 47484, 47500 and 47628 (with cast numberplates). Also liked the chocolate and cream livery on the 117 & 121 units that were done at the same time.

The Avanti Prideolino, by a mile.

Are those 'special' liveries? Or not-very-widely-used corporate liveries?

I would second the view on the GWR chocolate/cream DMUs. That livery really suited them.

I would say the pride pendolino was definitely a special livery:)

Good point, although as I recall the predominantly white BR livery I mentioned upthread was only ever used on regional DMU refurbishments.

LNER apple green on 47522 "Doncaster Enterprise"
British Steel light blue liveries on 37501, 60006 and 60033.
The 'Caledonian' blue variant of Virgin livery carried by 86245.
The experimental dark grey large logo livery worn by 87006.
The trio of SNCB/DB/SNCF liveried class 90 in the mid-nineties were a good looking bunch: My favourite was the SNCB livery 90028/128.
The Midline triple-tone blue class 121 bubble car.
Sealink liveried mark 1s used on the Stranrear service.

90030 was the SNCF Sybic livery. SNCB/NMBS have nothing to do with Sybics!

Which LU lines would they have run on, and when until?
It operated on the Northern Line from around 1990 (the 100th anniversary of the City and South London railway) to 2000 when the 59 stock were all replaced

Yup. It survived right to the end of 59 Stock operation. Some cars are now at the Epping Ongar Railway.

FCC Class 365 Promotional liveries:
"Cambridge & Ely"
"Garden Cities of Hertfordshire"
"Environmental Capital Peterborough"
"Nelson's County, Norfolk"
I thought they were great to promote train travel to visit notable destinations.

The four Merseyrail advertising liveries for the 2008 Capital of Culture celebration, especially the blue maritime (507008) and green heritage (507033) units. Very colourful and a most welcome change from the insipid 2003 Merseyrail livery. If only they had kept them for longer as 'Visit Liverpool' liveries.

An honourable mention to the Caledonian blue Class 101 unit (101692). A stylish livery, I preferred it to the carmine and cream scheme for which SPT eventually plumped.
