Day off work, Lancashire Day Ranger ensued! Some required track successfully scratched and then 142 bashing!

For the record, the required track was Preston-Ormskirk-Sandhills, Sandhills-Southport, Sandhills-Kirkby-Wigan Wallgate.

Nice photos dude! thanks for sharing :) liking photo 7 of 10, highlighting the 2 types of train! I presume years ago there wasnt the need to change at Kirkby!? & the final piccy, Blackpool South?

Sadly im not treated to any 142/3/4's at Derby & ive never seen one come through :( They would be ideal on the Matlock line surely with the extra coach for busy Sundays, better visibilty for the sights of Derbyshire & the extra 'bike' space!

Ta, fella :)

Yes, that is Blackpool South! The end of my local line!
I was quite surprised by the amount of pairs of 142s that were out that day. I did 057+033 in a pair from Wigan Wallgate to Southport and then to Manchester Victoria. I did that on the off chance it might be a Pacer! If not, the option would be to see what was on the Liverpool-Blackpool North circuit. Anyway, I saw 057 and thought 'that'll do!', then I noticed 033 tagged on the back! It were case of 'strap me in'! When I got to Man Vic, I just missed a pair heading for Blackpool North but there was ANOTHER pair (056+046) going out to Rochdale and then Blackburn! Good move for me as I then did 014 to Blackpool South and then for an hour and a bit wait for 037 back as far as St. Annes-On-The-Sea. The wait at South was done in the comfort of a leather sofa and a pint of cider in hand in the local 'spoons!

On a sad note, it turned out to be the last day of my camera as I dropped the blasted thing in the stair well of the lead car on 037 as I was getting off! I didn't lose the camera to the cess (!) but the lens was open at the time (as I was hoping to grab one more shot at St. Annes) and it kind of bent beyond repair! So that was G.O for my camera  So I'm off into town tommorrow to get a new one! :D

Oh dear, at least the camera went out in a blaze of glory!? :) Yes thats a fair few 'pairs' presumably being cobbled together for a few busy school/commuter runs later in the day!? Ah the site of a train type that you want, isnt it a top moment!? Also its amazing how quick time goes on these rail days, doesnt evaporate so quick when your at work!!

Again, where i live just doesnt see any Pacers, which is a shame. The transition from 1st gen DMU's in my area was strictly reserved for Sprinters, which i despised as a teenager but now, well the've grown on me (a bit) :)

Hope the cider went down well anyway :) & your now in the company of glorious new digi cam? Anyway talking about 1st Gen DMU's heres a few more pics of my visit to the ELR DMU day & Ecclesbourne Valley recently :) taken with my camera thats come close to falling into the Gents urinal at Bolton Street
