TVT Waterloo and City is getting close to completion, sorry it's taken so long, but obviously schoolwork has had to come first, and with both internal and external exams as well as coursework, I haven't been free much in the past few months, so we've been progressing slowly.

I expect release sometime during the first half of the summer holidays.

There has been discussions elsewhere about the filesize. Have you got an idea about the file size?

I'm afraid I do Chaz, and it's not too good. 323MB uncompressed - it's too many videos! However I do have a few ideas in mind to reduce the size, but I doubt it'll go down that much...

I'd be interested in any suggestions anyone has about reducing the size - PM or MSN me if you have any ideas! Thanks.

now now now chaz, thats only uncompressed, the compressed filesize is around 230meg (or so i was told)
It's still just under a third of a gigabyte taken up on your hard drive!

As Damon has said 230mb is still alot even compressed. I'll have to be really convinced if I want to download it. ;) Also it will be very heavy on the servers and your bandwith could run out and die*

* Depending on your host. ;)

Agreed. It's really a case of quality/file size. The file size could be decreased, but that would mean significantly reducing quality on videos and images. Perhaps some opinions on this? Incidentally, if it's too much for you to download, we will also send it to you on a CD (not for free, obviously, but I wouldn't say it's particularly expensive either).

EDIT: Have your say in the poll above.

I voted for bigger and better basically because I have broadband and the space to hold it. But I can see the downside. Uploading the thing will take ages plus the bandwith :?

I calculated the download time of the downloads.

Based on standard speeds publically available in the UK only!

Measured by kbps (Kilobytes per second)

Connection = Hours/Minutes/Seconds

Un-compressed @ 323 MB

14.4 Kb = 52:16:02
28.8 Kb = 26:08:01
33.6 Kb = 22:23:59
56 Kb = 13:26:23
128 Kb = 05:52:48
256 Kb = 02:56:24
512 Kb = 01:28:12
1024 Kb (1 MB) = 00:44:06
2048 Kb (2 MB) = 00:22:03
4096 Kb (4 MB) = 00:11:01
8192 Kb (8 MB) = 00:05:30

Compressed @ 230 Mb

14.4 Kb = 37:13:05
28.8 Kb = 18:36:32
33.6 Kb = 15:57:01
56 Kb = 09:34:12
128 Kb = 04:11:13
256 Kb = 02:05:36
512 Kb = 01:02:48
1024 Kb (1 MB) = 00:31:24
2048 Kb (2 MB) = 00:15:42
4096 Kb (4 MB) = 00:07:51
8192 Kb (8 MB) = 00:03:55

Can't wait though :D

Btw I dunno where 230mb compressesd came from guys?

Yeah tubechallenger, it will also be on CD.

As far as making two versions goes, that COULD theoretically be done, but unless someone knows of a program that can batch convert videos to different quality levels, it's not practical to do this at my end. (Sorry!)

Have you not tried a program called WinRAR?

It is similar to WinZip, but it can pack an archive pretty good. (Although it takes longer to extract!)

One example is, I had data totalling nearly 900 meg to put onto a CD, after using WinRAR, it was only 525 meg.........

The choice is yours :!:

I know about compression, thanks HP! But I don't know how big it will be when compressed myself yet! My question is how this value of 230MB has been conceived....?

because the compressed W and C line for TVT size is so big, think of how much size a compressed Northern Line would be if it's going to include the whole northern line, your looking at 2gig at least!

in that case the northern line tvt would have to be on either 3 CD's or 1 DVD!
