Reported on Southern Website - any idea what has happened?

What's Happening?
Two trains have developed faults on the stretch of railway between Reigate and Redhill. We believe the issue is that 'shoe gear' has been displaced away from the trains. Shoe gears are mounted on trains and are used to transfer electricity from the electric third rail to the train. When these come loose or are accidentally detached, power to the line will be automatically switched off for safety. As a result, both lines between Redhill and Reigate are closed at this time."

Southern have also highlighted the two trains in this screen grab 1613120172117.png

1R85 struck an object in the cess when it was working 1R02 to Reigate. Because the 3rd rail is on the 6ft side, it was able to continue. When 1R04 came through (not clear if it's exactly the same obstruction), it lost its shoes in a similar manner. When 1R04 attempted to draw power it tripped the power supply out. It's not clear if 1R85 is stranded because it's got no 3rd rail on the side with the remaining shoes, because it's tripping the section as well or just been told to stay put because of 1R04's problems.

A rescue 73 will be sent from Tonbridge to rescue both units, passengers have been evacuated to a bus.

One of the clearest drawbacks of "scalextric" railway.

Reports say that there was work during the night and that a piece of scrap rail has been found at 23m 10ch with 6 shoes next to it.

Equally one of the clearest drawbacks of people failing to do their job properly then

whilst rather mean of me, I do get a bit of a chuckle wondering which depot these two units will be sent, and who the 'lucky' fitters will be who will be replacing the shoegear! (mostly glad it's not me anymore!)
