Strikes have been announced for June 7th and 21st,the days of the Coldplay and Springsteen gigs at the Stadium Of Light.
None of the above has anything to do with choosing to strike on two days which will have the greatest adverse effect on the North East economy. Make no mistake, bargain tool though it may be, the RMT won't give two hoots if the strike does go ahead and other people suffer. Another one for you to ponder. If NEXUS were still your employers, you'd have had your pay frozen for 3 years like the rest of us public servants...
There are loads of us poor and get nothing except dole or just the minimum wage thats if we are lucky to have a job and these drivers have the cheek to vote to strike despite earning £37,000 a year and been given a 1.3% pay rise. If they get strike pay thats been even more of a fat pig.
That is what I think so don't take it personal.
Although I'm actually going to one of the concerts that is affected, I can see why the unions have chosen the dates. Hopefully everything will be resolved by next week - I hope it doesn't go on as far as the Airshow and Great North Run.
Been in contact with Northern to see what they can do with either providing more services or adding capacity. Seeing as there would be no Metros on, a Newcastle - Sunderland shuttle would be a good idea.
I'm also going to the Springsteen gig, staying locally so will be okay, but one of my friends going is stopping at Whitley Bay,so I guess it would be #9 bus to North Shields and a taxi for him? Also some speculation that the concerts could be postponed or even cancelled if the safety certificate is withdrawn.
Hell no. The "Boss" has spoken. Just take a "Wrecking Ball" to the Metro!I'm also going to the Springsteen gig, staying locally so will be okay, but one of my friends going is stopping at Whitley Bay,so I guess it would be #9 bus to North Shields and a taxi for him? From what I heard, one of the concerts last year was horrendous, but they changed the plans and got it working on the second night.
Being reported on Look North tonight that talks have broken down and the strike is still on this Thursday.
Unfortunate but correct,
they claim to have offered 2.1%, when what they done was offer to consolidate yearly bonus into salary instead of a 1 off yearly payment.
So original 1.3% + bonus (already entitled to and get in a one of yearly payment) = 2.1%
Gotta admire how they spin it. :-x
I'll asked Northern whether they are adding extra stock on or not,
Have Northern got any spare stock?
The current Northern pattern is one train per hour and I very much doubt they have extra stock until after rush hour to put on a 10 minute frequency. Northern use 142s and 156s on the line, as these are the only ones signed by conductors in the North East. As has been said before, although Northern have stopped at St. Peter's before, I doubt that they will be allowed to use the Metro stations now.
I'm sure East Coast would have something to say about this but in theory could GC put on a shuttle service between Newcastle and Sunderland? What stock do they have at that time that would otherwise be ECS? If they are running any ECS movements to Heaton does it not make sense to fill them up to ferry people to Newcastle?
