A class 31 can haul just about any tonnage you can put behind it but stopping a large load is quite another matter!

The TOPS blocks were originally allocated to put similar locos together within their Type range, hence the 24/25 and 26/27 allocation, rather than going strictly by horsepower.

A Class 31 has a number starting with a '3', is classified as a Type 2, but has the haulage capability of a Type 1 (on a good day).

(Soz to any Ped fans out there :smile: )
As I said not perfect, while the first digit did related to the previous power 'Type' designations, it didn't relate exactly - ie 3x wouldn't necessarily be a Type 3.

Type 1 became 14-20
Type 2 became 21-32
Type 3 became 33-39
Type 4 became 40-54
Type 5 became 54-69
