Hi,

Is there a public forum that lists the ECMs for each rolling stock fleet in the UK?

I can find each fleet manufacturer on Wiki but there is no mention of who maintains the vehicles, particularly the older fleets for each TOC.

I'm aware newer fleets are usually maintained by the manufacturer under a TSA agreement.

If anybody has any good resources it would be really usefull.

Thanks

that is a very detailed question! I doubt there is a public register of that information sadly.
There isn’t. It’s contained in the national vehicle register (R2) which is not publicly available. Other countries (eg Switzerland) do make their register public, however.

There's a wide variety of maintenance regimes, not always made clear by the TOCs or owning groups.
Generally BR-era stock was/is maintained by the incumbent TOC.
New stock is usually maintained by the manufacturer for an extended period, but not necessarily contracted for its full lifetime.

Some anomalies are:
Merseyrail 507/8 stock is maintained by Stadler, who will supply and maintain the new 777 fleet.
Northern appear to maintain their new class 195/331 CAF fleets, while TfW have contracted out the maintenance of their similar class 197 fleet (with the present Alstom 175 depot at Chester moving to CAF operation).

There are also different ownership/maintenance models.
The IEP (800/801) fleets are owned and maintained by Agility Trains (Hitachi).
The similar class 802 is owned separately but maintained by Agility.
Alstom, in the new sense, has also gained maintenance contracts for Bombardier fleets, and so now maintain class 390 and 221 (and other ex-Bombardier fleets).

Maintenance is also one of the areas that you might expect GBR to rationalise over time, but some of the existing contracts are for 25+ years.
The next major contract will be for HS2 stock, presumably the manufacturer will maintain the trains it supplies.

For FOC's most engines fall under their own ECM. Long term hires like 66's and 60's still see DB Cargo as the ECM. They may allow the customer to carry out smaller tasks on the loco according to their standards. Same with a large percentage of wagons running on the network.

Seems to vary between tocs and manufacturers. Not the mention the vast array of sub contractors attached to both (MTU for example)

This is not as clear cut as you may think too, as just because maintenance is undertaken by a manufacturer it does not necessarily mean it is the ECM as this can still be retained by owner/operator.

Also some surprising results when you look at who the largest maintainers are, with TOC's operating large fleets maintaining more vehicles doing more miles than many of the manufacturers.

I would expect that the current top three are;
Alstom (inc ex Bombardier fleets)
Hitachi
Govia

Not sure of the order at this time given some of the recent changes.

Also ORR provides some detail on this, but does not cover many of them
