And does Putin want a slice of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia? Or is that Euro-hype?

What would Russia Today say about this what was reported by the BBC on Thursday then?

While I agree Putin is not a nice chap, and I shared Paul's amusement at the spoutings of the "Russia Today" correspondent (has he been recalled to Moscow for briefing on how to handle this site?), the quoted post is pure hysteria, OTT, blether or whatever you wish to call it. We need to be a tad more objective.I was walking my dog in the countryside, not far from the south Cornwall coast, on Wednesday when 2 RAF Typhoons in close formation shot overhead. Now know this was to 'escort' Russian fighter planes which were just outside the U.K. flight area. Can you imagine what Russia would have done if the position had been reversed? They might well have shot ours down.Putin by far the most dangerous Russian leader, both for his own people and the wider world, since Stalin. Given the chance, he might well outstrip Stalin and be getting to the level of Hitler's evil and his appeasement by the wider world would be looked on by future generations as naive as Chamberlain's of Hitler.

Yeah, the Russian fighter planes were TU-95's (Not fighter planes). According to the Daily Mail they "streaked" past British airspace. I doubt they could have streaked anywhere even in the 1950's when they were built.
Hardly. Whenever Western military aircraft approach Russian airspace (which is not unusual) they scramble fighters to escort our aircraft whilst we're in the neighbourhood. No one's getting shot down unless someone decides to penetrate national airspace or someone shoots first.
They can do the best part of 600mph at full power which is not to be sniffed at from aircraft of that size and especially for a propeller powered aircraft. Also those Bear's will have been built in the late 80s and/or early 90s not the 1950s. The Bear's built in the 50s have been retired for a long time now. Underestimate the Tu-95 at your peril

Perhaps you may prefer to send a PM to martinsh if you want an in-depth answer to that particular question.
