Hello, back in the late 80s/early 90s, at the various open days, wherever they were, an AC electric usually appeared. I don't recall any pictures capturing the moves.

Did anyone grab pics of the short 225 rake heading to Streatham, the 91 to Ilford, the 90 to Brighton or anything else odd? Or off region loco transfers to open days. The 20 to Windsor for the 1989 gala day for example.

I never saw an electric being moved - i assume they would have been "dead in train". I do recall seeing in the cab of one at Old oak Common (I think) some paperwork relating to the move. It was, for some reason an "exceptional load" - was this just because the class was not formally cleared for the route, or was something (perhaps the stowed pantograph) out of gauge.

....or maybe I did see an electric being moved. I once saw "Gordon Highlander" being returned north from an open day at, I think Eastleigh. Minding my own business at West Brompton tube station, I was somewhat surprised to hear the once-familiar drone of a Deltic, which duly appeared passing through on the West London line with a 73 in tow. This was more than a little surprising, as it was during the preserved diesel ban (I can't recall the exact date, but it must have been between 1988 and 1992 when I was working in the area). I often wondered whether the move had been an expedient to avoid running round at Clapham Junction, or whether the 73 had failed (but if so, how was it going to get back hiome?)
