I think crosvile did in the 80s, it sold some VRTs and national's i think to SUT not 100%sure,then it gained school contracts then brought most of them back, not to sure if they gained their original number or not some one will know on here if they did.
I think this refers to some ex Crosville VRs that were subsequently repurchased by Crosville WALES (by then not associated with Crosville). Two that certainly came into that category were UMB338R (new as Crosville [NBC] DVL338, later DV
G338 after re-engining with a Gardner engine), which became Crosville Wales
DVG597, and MDM281P (new as Crosville [NBC] DVG281), which became Crosville Wales
DVG602. Please see below.
There was also the curious case of the ten Merseyside PTE Fleetlines (CKC311-320L) that Crosville hired in 1983/4, painted in green, and numbered HDG937-946 (although not in registration order). After the hire period, they went back to Merseyside PTE, who painted them back into verona green and jonquil. At deregulation, being declared surplus to requirements by Merseyside PTE, a number of these were acquired by Crosville, but this time operated in Merseyside PTE's livery. A number of the original ten thus worked again for Crosville, but NONE of them reacquired the same number. Again, below, please find photos of a couple of examples.
CKC319L - Merseyside PTE 3019 - hired to Crosville, and numbered HDG939. Arrowe Park, April 1984.
But after deregulation, it was CKC313L - Merseyside PTE 3013 - that Crosville numbered HDG939. Belle Vale, Nov 1986.
CKC318L - Merseyside PTE 3018 - hired to Crosville, running as HDG943. Woodside, September 1983.
But AFTER deregulation, it was CKC31
9L (three years earlier running as HDG939 - picture above) that became HDG943. Hunts Cross, December 1986.
