London Midland had a bit of a mare of a day yesterday with a number of major issues causing disruption in the Midlands.

Driver of Arriva train breaking ankle boarding his train at Wolverhampton blocking line
Surge of power affecting singalling problems immediatelu after signalling problems
Late running Virgin trains causing their trains to be delayed more.

At one stage they had 25 trains running between 5 and 50 minutes late.

Their Twitter team must have had steam coming out of their ears yesterday updating everybody.

Looking on their timeline it seems that the only ticket acceptance was on NXWM buses and the metro between Birmingham and Wolverhampton.

The knock on effect of trains and crew being in the wrong places would have caused the delays but unusually for LM no alternative methods in the Liverpool area. They did say that lots of late decisions were constantly being made due to the severity of delays and ensuing congestion. Maybe a factor.

Still doesn't help the OP though but will explain for some of the delays.
