Any idea why these new late night trains are in service for the new timetable on the Liverpool Manchester to Euston route?

yet only avaliable during a 2 week period from July to August? olympics?

are they to become permanent from september?

i think the clue might be in your post! - they are on demand services to transport people home from the olympics

They won't become permanent as they would plough straight through section 4 blocks (standard poessession opportunities) on the WCML after the Olympics. It is the same on most arterial routes out of London during the Olympic period. The engineering opportunities have been squeezed to the point where by the time you get anything on track you will need to take it off again.

The Pendolinos are very intensivley used. For a period short term additionals can be accomodated but thats it. Virgin will not want to alter this & risk poor performance to their core timetable. As also stated NR will not offer reliable long term paths due to engineering commitments.
