Here's some good news.

Virgin Trains' Traveller loyalty scheme (offering limited free first class at weekends, priority parking at stations, etc), which previously was only offered to passengers booking a minimum number of moderately or very expensive First Anytime and/or First Advance tickets within 90 days, is now also offered to passengers booking at least £6000 of any tickets on Virgin Trains' routes within 365 days. So First Off-Peak tickets, cheap First Advance tickets and all Standard tickets count, providing they are booked through Virgin Trains' website.

This is a nice way to reward regular purchasers of expensive Standard Anytime tickets who previously were offered very little. Compared to Virgin Trains East Coast, it seems that Virgin Trains (West Coast) is more ready to reward its customers.

It's definately a step forward to reward loyalty. Although the East Coast is now operated by LNER, not Virgin!

So that's one anytime return from Manchester - London every week to get over the limit.

And even though such a headline figure as £6000 may stand out as expensive to some, there will be no shortage of people to reach the threshold.

I notice that the website says journeys booked for someone else do not qualify for Traveller - all journeys must be undertaken by the same person to qualify. I don't see how they can enforce this rule, unless it means that if you book two or more tickets for the same journey in one transaction then only one of those tickets will qualify. AFAIK ordinarily there is no rule against booking a ticket for someone else using your account.
