You could go to Plymouth via Southampton on your SWT pass mate. ;)

I would expect the main reason HSTs never go to Bournemouth is that the crews on this route no longer sign them, whereas crews on the Plymouth run have continued to work HSTs during each summer.

Bournemouth is not special enough ;)

Although are 220s not normally diagrammed on Bomo services? So as tehre areno damaged 220s they don't need to replace the set. Whereas 1s91 is usually 221 IIRC

I think they dont run to Bournemouth is that only a certain type of mk3 can run on the 3rd rail

I suspect you are thinking of SSL bogies. Mk 3 stock has one of two types of bogies - SSL (Short Swing Link) or LSL (Long Swing Link). Only vehicles with SSL bogies are allowed on the old SR. All of Virgin's HSTs had these, but I suspect the MML fleet is either all LSL, or a mix of the two - which could pose difficulties. Much simpler to go to Plymouth!

Don't forget, with Plymouth you also have the added bonus of in the unfortunate event of a failure, Laira is nearby, who deal with HST's day in day out, what with FGW allocation, plus Virgin HST's used to be based there as well. With Bournemouth, where's the nearest facility that could handle HST's?

(I'm getting a 404 on that pic)

Also, 1A66 is apparently timetabled to run to Derby, presumably as a MML HST it stables at Etches Park.

Depends on the job to be done...

Bring it on though, I'm off for the thrash tomorrow...Doing the HST when/if it works the 1530 off Brum to Derby. If it is worked by a Voyager, expect to hear shouts of "BASTARDS!" all over Brum...!

Virgin should knock their head against the walls and run HST from Euston to Holyhead again, so there would be plenty of Voyagers available!

And what is the point of having lots of voyagers lying around when Virgin have to hire the HSTs which costs money?

As fantastic as this would be, how many spare HST sets are still available and working, given that GC may acquire some in the very near future?

43085 and 058 today (same set as Friday). I have also heard it may work until the end of the timetable-lets hope so.

Some problem yesterday with it, 1hx8m down, due to terminate at New Street. 220006 came in to take over the service, the HST then seen quite some time later just east of Water Orton. Terminating in New Street eh? HA!

Never mind I guess, just a waste of £14...Did spend an extra £2.20 to go to International to do the RailAir line and got 87006 back to Birmingham and a HST (just!) off Worcester with an excellent run back to Hereford.
