I am traveling to manchester on friday, returning saturday, is it any cheaper to split the journey, or stick to one fare, for walkup tickets.
cheers
Try doing a London Midland only fare from Walsall to Stoke on Trent then a Virgin only (I think) fare to Manchester Piccadilly from there. It should beat the through fare.

On my phone at the moment so can't check prices.

Virgin only do day tickets from Stoke to Manchester. That split would be:

Standard Class
£30.70
Saves £2.20 (6.7%)

WALSALL to STOKE ON TRENT
OFF-PEAK R
Fare £15.90
Route ANY PERMITTED
Restriction (2V)
Permitted by CC

STOKE ON TRENT to MANCHESTER STNS
OFF-PEAK R
Fare £14.80
Route ANY PERMITTED
Restriction (2V)
You also have the option of going via Rugeley Trent Valley (although you should check the timetable if you're travelling in the evening because the service ends early). This would cost:

Standard Class
£28.00
Saves £4.90 (14.9%)

WALSALL to RUGELEY TRNT VAL
Outward: ANYTIME DAY S
Route ANY PERMITTED
Fare £4.00
Return: ANYTIME DAY S
Route ANY PERMITTED
Fare £4.00

RUGELEY TRNT VAL to MANCHESTER STNS
OFF-PEAK R
Fare £20.00
Route ANY PERMITTED
Restriction (2V)
Permitted by TV
There is also a third option, which I will tell you about via PM.
