Can it work? It would make sense for live cables (where the current generates a magnetic field) but surely not for water pipes?

Water firms have hastily distanced themselves from their own admissions that they use divining rods to detect leaks amid widespread alarm at publicly listed companies using witchcraft.

Ten of the 12 water companies in the UK told the science blogger Sally Le Page, via Twitter, that they use the practice of water dowsing despite the lack of scientific evidence for its effectiveness.

But after the disclosure was first reported in the Guardian and picked up by media across the world, many of the companies have tried to row back on their admissions or blame rogue engineers.

Doesn't work at all, and as part of her crusade Sally has given a pretty good laypersons explanation of what happens and why it can appear to "work".

Now, as for if company social media accounts are the best source for information on this kind of thing, that is something else and I somewhat feel sorry for the people operating these accounts!

Nobody can live exclusively on dumb Twitter posts from Donald Trump.
