It was just announced on the Tannoy at Wigan that the WCML is blocked in the Warrington area. I didn't catch the entire message but I think they said the wires are down.
Yeah, they repeated the message - trains are being delayed from Warrington northward due to the broken down train.Train breakdown between Lancaster and Oxenholme according to NRE: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/today.aspx
DRS 6C27 failed in the down loop at Oxenholme, due to adhesion issues. The rear of the train was fowling the down main, hence why trains couldn't run northbound through the area.
The loco from southbound 6V24 was "borrowed" to pull the failed train into the loop, but had to also move the failed loco, as the loop wasn't big enough to take the failed train/loco plus the rescue loco.
Would the failed loco be a class 68 by any chance?
