It says standard class passengers can take advantage (if space is available) and upgrade to weekend first on payment of a £9 supplement. When you ask to do so with a Megatrain booking you are told you can not do so - therefore the wording that standard passengers can upgrade is incorrect or the on board staff have it wrong... any ideas which ?

The Megatrain T&C's take priority over any other T&C's. Whether it is legal for them to do this or not I don't know, but they do it nonetheless. There's nothing stopping you from asking the guard, though.

You cannot upgrade megatrain tickets.

Yes you can but ONLY on EMT. Upgrades started being permitted on EMT following the most recent change in the megatrain T&C's. However EMT guards are legendary for their lack of ticket knowledge (Just ask those that suffer regularly) and so their guards will continue to deny they are valid. What isn't clear is what about megabusplus tickets?

I do sometimes get the feeling that they would like to herd Megatrain passengers in to specially designated sheep pens.

Well they are Baaaa-rgain fares!

Mehhh... they say one gets a bit woolly as one gets older.

I was going to ask when is a standard class passenger NOT a standard class passenger and would that make Megatrain passengers substandard passengers.
Will have another go at upgrading on the next MT trip.
