Was brilliant shift at work earlier today... at one point the departure board showed seven services in a row to Euston, most that were Virgin trains with additional stops, and some of them not even coming but I don't think anyone really knew what was going on, what with the wires down at Mitre Bridge thanks to the errant digger, the Abbey line down again because the train and track cannot co-operate (apparently it was almost sliding into the buffers at the Abbey!), broken down trains at Crewe, Wolverton, Berkhamsted (the latter messing up the LM timetable for the day as it was impossible to run Tring terminators), the bump through Weedon, obviously the issues around Canley... the most numerous events I've seen in one day for a while which affected Watford directly!

I thought it couldn't get worse after yesterday's farce at Bourne End and the Southern wires down (which I hoped would be fixed overnight - then reading the NR messages realised that was not going to happen!)!

Mitre Bridge was not just the OHL, it also blew some of the signalling equipment up when it tripped which took a little longer to fix than expected. You will also be pleased to note that the little problem at Northchurch is still ongoing this morning as well

LM's twitter and Journeycheck teams did an unusually poor job yesterday - they listed the Canley and broken down train at Crewe issues, but gave no explanation as to why the Tring stoppers weren't running. I was scratching my head over it all day!

There was more disruption today quite a few of the Virgin Trains services to/from Manchester were disrupted and some were cancelled. There was quite a bit of disruption for CrossCountry, one of the Bournemouth to Manchester trains terminated at Stoke-on-Trent as it was that delayed which meant the 15:07 Manchester to Bristol train had to start at Stoke-on-Trent.

There was a total loss of signalling at Euston this morning, which happened on two separate occasions and caused complete suspension of service.

It moves into a third day; no direct services between Wolverhampton and Birmingham. Mainly causing cancellations on local services & mid Wales, I guess because of capacity on the diversionary route.

Another bad day, WCML services running 30+ late due to both flooding and wiring down with many cancelled and now I cant get back from man pic either, all services suspended and platforms evacuated due to trespass incident ongoing for the last 30 minutes.

With the ECML also badly affected at Newark because a tree fell on the OHLE.
Passengers asked to use Euston for Leeds and Scotland!
    1200 King's Cross-Inverness currently 210 down at Aviemore.

The trespasser was eventually arrested, though as I was leaving heard TPE was suffering signalling problems as well they were on the PA telling people at Pic that their tickets would be valid on Metrolink and buses to go to Deansgate or Victoria and catch a train there instead.

Flooding was apparently between Oxenholme - Penrith and Preston - Lancaster,
power supply failed just south of Wigan North Western, electric services to Liverpool were still running but not to London or Manchester, also wires down between Stafford and Crewe and between Sandwell-Dudley, an object was caught in the overhead between Milton Keynes and Watford Jn.

Not a good day at all!

Another vandalism event near Coventry today. Looks like a pattern emerging. Third time recently IIRC

Only a couple of VT cancellations, and a Glasgow Voyager went via Chester.
Presumably the others got past on the slow lines.
No diversions via Manchester that I can see.
LM terminated at Crewe with passengers sent via Chester.
NRE calls it a "lineside fire" at Winsford.

Was on the Glasgow voyager today. Coventry and BHM cancelled, with the train routed to Stafford to then reverse to Wolverhampton. Stuck at Stafford for over 20 minutes with a brake problem. Driver had a couple of full length journeys between cabs sorting it. Then we get stuck for a while at Crewe due to the fire. Train manager told us he was requesting a diversion via Chester, which was cleared after a while. Reverse at Chester and then off to Warrington.

Took over 4 1/2 hours from London to Preston. Just one of those days. Staff on board were excellent though.

Think the WCML is due a good day soon.

Predictably, the next Euston-Birmingham-Scotland (9S80 to Edinburgh), having done the same shuffle from Stafford to Wolverhampton, then took the normal route and overtook your train while it was on the Chester diversion and was 10 minutes ahead by Preston...

Yep, saw we were being passed whilst watching updates via the NR site. One of the members of crew said that as we were already well over an hour down, other services would be prioritised ahead of ours to avoid other services running over an hour late. (And presumably paying out more delay repay compensation.)

We were already so late, it didn't make much of a difference. Not a lot you can do, so you may as well sit back and enjoy it if you can!

What was the point in going from Stafford to Wolves and back to Stafford again? Could the train not have remained at Stafford connecting with other services from Wolves/Brum/Coventry there?

There was some disruption at Manchester Piccadilly tonight for Virgin Trains, I was wondering if I wanted to get the 20:15 or 20:27 CrossCountry train to Stoke-on-Trent where I was going to catch the 21:18 Derby train. In the end I chose CrossCountry as the Virgin Train was rammed but I am so glad I did as the 19:55 and 20:15 Manchester to London trains were severely delayed as they didn't have a driver and had I of caught the 20:15 I would have missed the Derby train at Stoke-on-Trent.

Because these were the services that were serving Wolverhampton to go towards Stafford. The line was closed at Coseley between Wolverhampton and New St.
The only other trains running to Wolverhampton via Bescot were VT Wolves terminators and ATW to Holyhead/Cambrian.
