Due to go south on Fort William sleeper this evening but the line is closed due to a landslide that has derailed a freight train somewhere south of here.
We've been told we can spend the night in our sleeper berths buy no news as to whether there will be buses to transport us south in the morning

A freight train has become derailed near Tulloch. Because of this, trains between Crianlarich and Mallaig are suspended. There is no current estimate for when a normal service will resume.

The 19:50 ScotRail 'sleeper service' from Fort William to Edinburgh which was due to run overnight has been cancelled. This service will remain at Fort William to provide accommodation for passengers.

You should have the smoothest night's sleep you'll ever experience on a Caledonian Sleeper :D

Hope you get the full complimentary treatment on board tonight,I mean that liquid which will be banned soon on all other Scot rail; services. Shame for those stranded further up the line.

6S45 loco has derailed

Plus a number of wagons behind. Due to the remote location the driver had to be airlifted out by the air ambulance....he is ok tho.

What a mess. I got caught up in all this yesterday and ended up having to kip in the Crianlarich Hotel. A total move to oblivion on my part.

There is also a landslip blocking the line between Ardlui and Arrochar. 5 class 156 units are trapped in the section between Ardlui and Oban, with a set shuttling between Crianlarich and Oban feeding into rail replacement buses to and from Glasgow.

As we arrived into Glasgow this morning on a rail replacement bus following our impromptu stay in Crianlarich (all our stuff in a hotel in central Glasgow BTW), the queue out of Central station had to be seen to be believed. Luckily we had a car with us for the southbound journey or I'd still be in Scotland now. As we drove over the border the rain cleared. Literally as we drove past the sign. Never been more glad to get back to Blighty ;)

Looks like this 66 has had it:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ain-blocks-line-West-Highlands-landslide.html

Meanwhile, hundreds of passengers endured an 11-hour journey from Birmingham to Glasgow after a fire in the engine of their train forced an evacuation.
The 5.20pm Birmingham to Glasgow service, operated by Virgin Trains, had to stop near Moffat, in Dumfries and Galloway, at about 10.20pm yesterday.
The fire was isolated to the front of the train, and the passengers, around 500, were moved to the rear before an emergency evacuation took place.

Might have been worth checking for existing threads as well, of which there are various, and with pictures too.

Must admit I didn't see any other threads, at least not specifically about this derailment.

The media are a little misleading in that they are saying a 24 wagon freight train has derailed, intimating that all 24 wagons have derailed!! From the photos it looks like only the front half dozen...

NRE says no trains until Tuesday at the earliest. As for getting the shed removed, who knows?

The wonders of the english language. What they have written is technically correct.

Latest report is that the upper slope needs to be secured (including the remaining boulders) which in its self is expected to take 2 days.

Only saw the pictures earlier, Sympathies for the driver - By the looks of the WNXX pictures, that cab is rather close to rather rather large rock.

As for the Aluminium train, was this the loaded or empties?

By the way, can anyone explain as to why, on the daily snail picture - there is a service to Bath Spa?

That's actually the arrivals board ;)

As to why CrossCountry run a service from Bath Spa, then you'll have to ask them why they operate such a service. Forum members speculated possible reasons for CrossCountry to operate an early morning service from Bath in a thread a few years ago: http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=33771

They wont be able to build a road up to the loco so an airlift could be an alternative but it is isolated so NR must be scratching their heads for an answer. This will prompt a review of the line for possible landslips I hope ,the driver must have been really shaken up by this hope they look after him?

Doh! Sorry, that's doing several things at once for you. And yes, i remember that now, this mystery ex Bath Spa XC service.

Looks like this is also going to provide a headache for GB, as this will no doubt mean another 66 will have to be out of service for quite some time - could this provide a chance for the imminently due 70099 maybe?

The train will be loaded as it was heading North , this could hit poduction at fort Bill . Also it could have an effect on GBRF as they are so busy with all the work they have .
